Welcome to Antwerp!

Lonely Planet selected Antwerp in "TOP 10 CITIES TO VISIT IN 2018"

As you might have noticed, Lonely Planet recently announced their list for “THE TOP 10 CITIES TO VISIT IN 2018“, and in between some big known cities, is a hidden gem: Antwerp! In an impressive list, Lonely Planet decided that Antwerp should urgently be on your bucket list! And they are particularly mentioning the coolness of our city. Besides cities like Seville, Detroit, Canberra, Hamburg, Kaohsiung, Matera, San Juan, Guanajuato and Oslo, Antwerp can be one of your city trips in 2018! This is how Lonely Planet starts in their introduction:

Once northern Europe’s greatest city, today Antwerp is one of its best-kept secrets. Flanders’ unofficial capital is laden with historic riches and home to world-class arts and design, and this year it’s showing its cultural chops with a celebration of its Baroque heyday. Inspired by the city’s most famous resident, Rubens, Antwerp Baroque 2018 will feature Flemish Masters rubbing shoulders with modern talent in a calendar that spans parades, concerts, street art, multimedia shows and workshops. Not that Antwerp’s residents need an excuse to unleash their creativity: the city, especially its former docks, is flush with pop-up bars, farm-to-fork joints and architectural showstoppers.

Belgium’s second city and biggest port is Antwerp and without a doubt, this charming city is the country’s capital of cool.

  1. Well, I’ve just been tu Brussels several times and I really liked it – especially during Christmas time. But I’ve heard a lot about Antwerp as well. And Bruges actually. I was surprised that Lonley Planet nominated them as even in Germany it is not super popular. But it obviously is a beautiful city and I would love to go and visit some day!

    1. Hey Kate, thanx for your comment! Both Antwerp and Bruges (and Ghent as well) are very different from BXL. Much smaller, and much more historic and traditional. If you aver come to Antwerp, let us know if you liked it 🙂

  2. We have family in Belgium and recently popped over to Bruges but haven’t been to Antwerp yet. Must put it on the list! We’d love to visit the former docks to spend some time exploring the pop-up bars and sampling food from the farm-to-fork places! If we do come over we’ll be sure to get in touch!

  3. We visited Antwerp while in Belgium and found it stunning. But I had no idea it would appear on the Lonely Planet of top cities to visit in 2018. Antwerp certainly deserves all the accolades it is receiving. About time too.

  4. Wow I love your pictures. I had no idea, I must admit, that Antwerp is so pretty. I’d love to visit Belgium sometime, especially during fall. Look at this colors! Thanks for this post, I’ll also refer to your guide of 30 things to do when I plan my trip.
